TBWA\HAKUHODO's Radio Time Machine Supports Elderly Well-Being

Developed by TBWA\HAKUHODO and launched in partnership with elderly care provider Nichii Gakkan, Radio Time Machine is an AI-powered memory care device inspired by non-pharmacological Reminiscence Therapy, which uses familiar stimuli to support cognitive and emotional well-being and prevent dementia. Styled like a vintage radio, this device automatically generates era-specific radio-like audio content, historical news and popular music to spark memories and communication and support the well-being of senior residents in elderly care settings.

Complete with a dial, the Radio Time Machine gives users the ability to tune into a desired year, from 1950 to 2025, rather than a traditional frequency. As part of a pilot project introducing the Radio Time Machine, Nichii Gakkan noted residents smiled more, gestured more, and spoke more, indicating a rise in joy and motivation to share their memories with others.
