The Promise Pets collection by Build-A-Bear is a line of plush animals and accompanying accessories designed to teach children about responsibility and caretaking through simulated pet ownership. This innovation includes Make-Your-Own Promise Pets — such as a Calico Cat, Ocicat, Pug and Bernese Mountain Dog, and additional breeds like Dachshund, Golden Retriever and Frenchie available online. The brand also offers smaller Mini Beans versions and accessories like pet carriers, leashes, bowls, beds, and an Adopt-A-Pup adoption storybook.

A social media poll conducted by the brand found that 86% of pet parents believe hands‑on experience is the best way to prepare for pet ownership, and many respondents specifically mentioned practicing with a toy or stuffed animal as a helpful step. Thus, the Promise Pets experience seeks to mirror real‑world pet care activities, allowing kids to practice empathy, patience, and daily routines in a low‑pressure, worry‑free manner.
