Facebook Live still has a narrow but useful role.

Facebook Live should not be treated as a universal answer. It is most useful when the topic benefits from presence, questions and post-live reuse.

Facebook Live is easy to dismiss because it feels older than Reels, but the public benchmark evidence argues for a narrower view. Live is not the default format for every post. It is a high-effort format that still earns a place when the topic benefits from presence, questions and a reusable recording.

Emplifi's 2026 Social Media Benchmarks summary reports a median of 37.5 interactions per Facebook Live post, about four times a link post and six times an image post in the figures disclosed on its public page. The caveat is important: the full report sits behind a form, and the public page does not disclose the complete Facebook sample, region or category cut. The number should be used as a directional format signal, not as a promise.

Socialinsider's Facebook benchmarks keep the comparison in proportion. Average engagement remains low across Facebook business pages, and format performance varies. Live may outperform a link post on median interactions because it creates a moment that asks for response, not because live video magically fixes weak topics. A product demo with genuine questions is different from a scripted announcement with no audience role.

Meta's Reels recommendation update also changes how Live should be planned. If same-day Reels and longer video watch time matter inside Facebook's distribution system, a Live session should not end when the broadcast ends. It should produce clips, answers, objections, proof points and follow-up posts. The live event is the source material; the distribution plan is a second job.

The strongest use cases are specific: a new product that needs demonstration, a service that creates buyer questions, an expert explanation where trust depends on seeing the person think, or a community moment where the audience wants recognition. Weak use cases are equally specific: generic announcements, unmoderated sales pitches and long monologues that could have been a two-minute edited video.

So what

Keep Live only where it changes the information quality. Before scheduling one, write the three questions the session must answer and the five assets it should produce afterward. If the team cannot name those outputs, use a shorter format. If it can, Live becomes a research and content source, not just a broadcast slot.
