Spot is an Autonomous Public Restroom Cleaning Concept

The Spot concept is an autonomous cleaning robot developed by South Korean designers Yangwoo Choi and Ye Jin Lee for public restrooms. Published in June 2026, the project focuses on the period between scheduled maintenance by detecting contamination after a user exits and automatically cleaning the affected area. The compact robot features a minimal blue exterior intended to integrate into restroom environments without drawing attention. Its detection-based operation differs from autonomous cleaning machines that rely on preset schedules or fixed routes, allowing maintenance to respond to actual conditions rather than routine.

The concept targets high-traffic locations including airports, train stations, shopping centers and schools where restroom use can quickly outpace cleaning schedules. Autonomous operation reduces the need for reactive manual cleaning between scheduled visits while allowing maintenance staff to focus on deeper sanitation, restocking and facility upkeep.
