Record-Breaking Functional Fitness Competitions

DEKA, the global fitness racing brand created by the team behind Spartan, hosted its largest Chicago event to date at Navy Pier from July 10th to 12th, and the gathering drew more than 2,200 athletes representing 274 gyms from across the Chicagoland area and beyond for three days of functional fitness competition.

DEKA's functional fitness competition celebrates a new world record set by Lauren Weeks and Janelle Teal in the DEKA Teams division. It also demonstrated the sport's growing appeal among everyday athletes seeking measurable challenges. The DEKA Mark system allows athletes to compare their performances globally through a standardized benchmark.

The event's emphasis on community and inclusivity is particularly compelling, as women comprised 51% of the overall field and nearly six in ten participants in the two-person team division, while almost half of all competitors chose to race as part of a team.
