University of Melbourne Unveiled Its Diabetic Foot Ulcers App

Researchers at the University of Melbourne and RMIT developed a smartphone thermal imaging system to assess diabetic foot ulcers, featuring an app-driven workflow with temperature-mapping to highlight hot spots. The team introduced the approach as a clinical-assessment aid designed to integrate smartphone cameras with thermal sensors, aiming to standardize at-home monitoring. The prototype included image-processing algorithms and a clinician-facing dashboard to track changes over time and support early intervention.
