Temporary Worship Space Proposals
Gensler Pushes for a Temporary Pavilion Alongside Notre-Dame
Gensler — an international architecture firm, recently revealed a proposal for a temporary worship space. The design is intended to occupy a site alongside Notre-Dame and to exist there while restorations to the cathedral are done — the structure caught on fire on April 15th, 2019, causing immense damages to the roof and the collapse of the spire.
The temporary worship space will be housed in a versatile pavilion. The proposal is intended to provide relief for church operations, offering ample room for services and markets. When determining the design language of the concept, Gensler focused on familiarity. As a result, the architecture firm created the visuals of the worship space to have "the exact dimensions of the nave of the cathedral so that it feels familiar."
