STECKRETÄR is a modular insert designed to transform the IKEA BILLY Bookcase into a standing desk without permanent modification. The unit attaches directly onto the existing shelf structure, creating an elevated work surface suitable for a laptop, keyboard, and small desk accessories. It aligns with the bookcase’s vertical frame and uses the original shelf pin system for height positioning. The structure is constructed from powder-coated steel and wood-based panels to ensure stability while maintaining compatibility with standard BILLY dimensions.

Installation does not require drilling or structural alteration to the base furniture. Once mounted, lower shelves remain accessible for storage, preserving the bookcase’s original function. The insert distributes weight along the side panels to maintain balance during use. STECKRETÄR is sold separately as an add-on component and is priced at €289.
