Birkenstock has expanded its retail footprint in Spain with the opening of a new store in Madrid’s upscale Salamanca district. This marks the brand’s second location in the capital and its third directly operated store in the country.

The latest outlet, which began operating on July 28, 2026, is situated on Calle de Claudio Coello and represents a significant step in the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in what it identifies as one of its most dynamic European markets. Birkenstock has tailored the store’s design to resonate with local heritage, drawing inspiration from Madrid’s historic corralas — residential buildings from the 17th century known for their communal courtyards and galleries. This architectural influence is manifest in the store’s open and inviting layout, which encourages movement and social engagement, while interior elements such as worktables and shelving echo the city’s traditional espadrille workshops.
