Beauty leads TikTok Shop Thailand, but GMV is not revenue
The public Q1 2025 category signal puts beauty, health and personal care at the top of TikTok Shop Thailand's mix. Use it to order the test queue, not to mistake paid-order GMV for cash or margin.

The public Statista page, based on Momentum Works data, opens only a narrow window onto TikTok Shop Thailand's category mix. The full percentage table sits behind the paid product. What it does disclose is still worth having: in Q1 2025, beauty, health and personal care held the highest GMV share among shopping categories on TikTok Shop in Thailand.
That is enough to shape a test plan and nowhere near enough to rebuild a market-share table. Treat it as a Q1 2025 category-priority signal — a prompt to test whether products that can be shown, compared, explained, trusted and bought within a short content path fit the channel. It does not establish a permanent category ranking.
Read the definition before the category rank
The same public Statista page earns attention for its definition note. GMV includes paid orders, and it also includes orders that may later be cancelled, returned or refunded. GMV therefore measures platform transaction flow on a paid-order basis. It does not measure net revenue, contribution margin, cash collection or repeat demand.
The distinction is not academic. A beauty SKU can sit in the leading category and still lose money once discounting, affiliate commission, platform commission, shipping subsidy, returns, samples, creator fees and ad spend are loaded in after the order line. TikTok Shop Seller Center Thailand presents the channel around creators, shoppable videos and live selling. Those mechanics move demand quickly, and they also make the cost stack wider than a simple marketplace listing.
For a Thai market entry decision, then, the question worth asking is which category can carry its total route-to-order cost after the visible order has been adjusted for cancellations, refunds, fulfilment and repeat behaviour — not which category is largest.
Why beauty leads logically
Beauty, health and personal care are unusually compatible with content commerce. The product can be demonstrated on camera. Before-and-after or routine logic is easy to narrate. Ingredient, texture, application and shade questions can be answered by creators. Bundles and trial sizes reduce first-order risk. And the order rarely requires long installation, measurement or heavy post-sale service.
Thailand's broader ecommerce environment supports that reading. The U.S. International Trade Administration describes Thailand as a mobile-led ecommerce market with high digital adoption and large marketplace participation. Euromonitor's public Digital Shopper in Thailand preview points to strong digital shopper growth, mobile connectivity, convenience and the mainstreaming of live and social commerce. Those are channel conditions in which a content-led beauty funnel can work.
The same conditions do not make every beauty SKU a good TikTok Shop SKU. A product with unclear claims, fragile supply, weak visual proof or a regulatory burden should not be counted as category-fit simply because the category is large. The category signal is a starting filter, not a guarantee.
The operating test
A practical Thailand test should start with a small SKU set and measure the full path:
| Layer | What to check |
|---|---|
| Content | Views, watch-through, creator angle, comments asking purchase questions |
| Product page | Click-through, cart adds, price objections, bundle response |
| Order | Paid orders, voucher use, affiliate attribution, ad spend |
| Adjustment | Cancellation, return, refund, fulfilment cost, platform fees |
| Retention | Repeat purchase, review quality, customer-service load |
The table matters because TikTok Shop's visible strength sits at the front of the funnel, while the back half is slower to appear in reporting. GMV can make a test look successful before the net order economics have settled.
For beauty and personal care, that means testing claims and formats before scaling. Demonstration-led SKUs, replenishment products and bundles with clear use cases usually belong early in the queue. High-ticket devices, products requiring medical-style trust and items with complex post-sale obligations should usually treat TikTok Shop first as an education and demand-capture surface rather than the main transaction channel.
So what
The public Q1 2025 category signal supports one decision: beauty, health and personal care deserve early TikTok Shop Thailand testing. It does not support an annual revenue forecast or a reconstructed category-share chart. Use the signal to decide which SKUs enter the test queue, then manage the test on contribution after cancellations, refunds, fees, affiliate cost, ads, fulfilment and repeat purchase. In Thailand, the category may give the channel a head start; the margin model decides whether it should scale.
