Facebook is not gone. The KPI split has changed.

Facebook benchmark data points in two directions at once: wider reach in vendor samples, but thin per-post interaction. Planning needs separate exposure, discussion and referral targets.

The useful question for Facebook in 2026 is not whether the platform is alive. It is which job a brand is asking Facebook to do. A single blended KPI makes the channel look confusing, because the latest public benchmarks describe exposure, interaction and discovery moving on different tracks.

Metricool's 2026 social media study reports a broad rebound inside its connected-account sample: Facebook reach rose 51%, impressions rose 57% and interactions rose 56% year over year. The sample is large, covering 39,762,999 posts and 1,059,949 accounts across platforms, but it is still a vendor sample, not a full-platform census. It is strong enough to say that Facebook should not be dismissed as a dead surface; it is not enough to predict any one brand's reach.

The same planning deck should also carry the colder number from Socialinsider's Facebook organic benchmarks. Its sample of 25 million posts and more than 130,000 business pages puts average engagement rate in 2025 at 0.15%. That figure keeps the interpretation grounded: more available impressions do not mean every post now earns conversation easily. A page can see more people and still produce a low comment or click rate per post.

Meta's own product direction explains why the split matters. Its update on making Facebook easier to create, discover and share pushes Feed, Search, Reels, Friends and Marketplace into a more discovery-led interface. That is a distribution change rather than a guarantee of deeper attention. Content can surface beyond followers, but the audience may arrive with weak context and leave quickly unless the post gives them a reason to continue.

For reporting, the practical move is to stop averaging the channel into one score. Use reach and impressions to judge whether Facebook is still supplying awareness. Use comments, shares and saves to judge whether the post gave people something worth carrying forward. Use link clicks, messages or assisted conversions to judge whether Facebook is doing commercial work. Each metric answers a different operating question.

So what

Keep Facebook in the channel mix where the audience, category and creative history justify it, but rebuild the dashboard. A 2026 Facebook report should show three lines: exposure, discussion and next action. If exposure rises while discussion stays flat, the issue is not necessarily media buying; it may be that the content is being discovered by people who have not yet been given a useful reason to engage.
