Reels opens the door. It is not always the room for discussion.
Facebook Reels can widen discovery, but benchmark and product signals suggest brands still need separate formats for explanation, questions and community response.

Facebook Reels should be treated as a discovery entrance, not as the whole conversation system. That distinction matters because the format is built for reach and fast judgment, while many brand outcomes still require explanation, comparison and reply.
Meta's Reels recommendation update says its systems now show 50% more creator Reels posted on the same day, and that US Facebook video watch time rose 20% year over year. The same update notes that, for creators with more than 10,000 followers, Reels longer than one minute were one quarter of Reels production but more than half of watch time. These are Meta-reported platform observations, not a promise that every brand can replicate the result. They do show that freshness and video attention have become material inputs.
Socialinsider's 2026 Facebook benchmarks add the operational caveat. Its page-level benchmark data shows low average engagement overall and highlights that format performance changes by page size and metric. A Reels-first plan can therefore win discovery while still underperforming on comments, shares or qualified traffic if the post never turns attention into a next question.
Meta's broader Facebook product update points in the same direction: content now moves through Feed, Search, Reels and other discovery points. In that environment, the first video is often the handshake. The discussion may happen in a status post, a comment thread, a Group, a message or a follow-up explainer. Treating Reels as the only unit of strategy leaves those later surfaces under-designed.
A practical content architecture separates the jobs. Use Reels for demonstration, contrast, one clear finding or a fast story. Use text or carousel-style explanation when the claim needs qualification. Use questions and community prompts when the business needs objections, use cases or local examples. Then measure each layer by the behaviour it can reasonably create.
So what
Do not ask whether Reels should replace posts. Ask what Reels should hand off to. If the handoff is a comment, the prompt must be specific enough to answer. If the handoff is a message, the offer has to be clear. If the handoff is a longer brief or product page, the video should name the decision problem, not simply tease a topic.
